The HMRC has published figures for the number of residential property transactions which took place over 2017.
While figures for the last three months of the year are still provisional, if these sales levels are confirmed, the number of sales recorded looks to have been largely unchanged for the past four years.
This is perhaps surprising, particularly given the talk of a recent slowdown in the market, but, these figures do hide regional variations.
Since 2014, sales of homes across the UK have plateaued at around 1,225,000. Indeed, the number of transactions have only varied by 7,350 over this period.
The latest figures suggest that approximately 1 in every 20 homes across the country sold in 2017. This is 24% lower than a decade ago when one in 15 properties sold.
